How to be a good homemaker
You might be wondering how you can apply all of this in your own home. Well letโs start with the basics.
Cook yummy, healthy home-cooked meals every week.
A big part of homemaking is cooking meals. As a homemaker, youโre responsible for meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking.
You really should start meal planning if you donโt already! It can be very helpful for getting meals on the table at night, not to mention with less stress.
Get proficient at cooking quality delicious meals. Read food blogs or watch YouTube videos on cooking techniques. Buy some good quality cookbooks. And practice!
Find a cleaning routine that keeps your house tidy.
There is plenty of advice on the internet about finding the best cleaning routine. I would suggest trying things out and seeing what works for you and YOUR family.
Your cleaning routine should be efficient, effective and help you keep your home tidy and deep cleaned on a regular basis.
As a good homemaker, your cleaning routines should flow nicely throughout your day and weeks for tasks you do on a biweekly basis.
Be resourceful.
If youโre a homemaker, your family is most likely living off of one income. If this is the case, then you as the homemaker need to make sure youโre being a good steward of the money and definitely try not to be wasteful.
Be mindful of things like turning off unused lights and not letting food go bad. Find new ways to use up things that youโd otherwise throw away. Try to remember the saying ofย โuse it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.โ
Create a laundry schedule that works for you.
If you want to be a good homemaker, you need to have an efficient laundry routine. Do a load of laundry a day to stay on top of it. Donโt let piles build up and overwhelm yourself.
As time goes by, youโll figure out how often you need to do laundry that makes sense for you and your home.
Focus on your family relationships.
Itโs easy to think homemaking is just about your home, but itโs not. Homemaking is about the people in the home too. Your husband, your children, your friends, your visiting parents. Itโs about creating a space that makes everyone that steps in it feel comfortable. Donโt get too caught up in your daily cleaning tasks that you forget about your relationships!
Try to maintain a good attitude.
All of the hard work you do in your home will be for nothing if you donโt do it with a good attitude.
Remember the qualities of a good homemaker I mentioned before? Like being patient, joyful, disciplined etc. It will be easier for you to achieve these if you double check your attitude periodically throughout the day.
When you feel overwhelmed, remember all of the things youโre grateful for. Think about all the things your family does for you. Try to find things to do in your day that bring you JOY!
I hope this post inspired you to become a better homemaker! Please remember you are the perfect person to be managing your home and taking care of your family. Just work a little harder each day at getting better and youโll be fine. Youโre doing amazing mama!ย
I should also mention that these are all things Iโm working on as well. No one is perfect and we all can use improvement now and then!
