When should you deep clean your house?

How often you do your deep cleaning is totally up to you. You may do a big deep cleaning for your Spring cleaning and thatโ€™s it. Or you may like to deep clean more often.

Some of these cleaning tasks should be done more frequently, like on a weekly or monthly basis.

This deep cleaning guide will help you keep track of the tasks youโ€™ve completed, and you can decide for yourself how often you want to do them!

What you need to deep clean your entire house

Most of the cleaning tasks in this post require just basicย cleaning tools. You probably have most of them already in your home.

The best part is that the cleaners and tools you need are practical and affordable, so you can get started right away!

Here are some cleaning essentials:

  • The Pink Stuff Cleaning Paste โ€“ I only discovered this range recently and it is magic! It has replaced most of my cleaning products!
  • The Pink Stuff Cream Cleanerย โ€“ A cream version of the cleaning paste that is great for cleaning virtually everything.
  • Magic Erasers โ€“ These work like โ€˜magicโ€™ to remove scuff marks off walls and furniture.
  • Scrub Mommy Spongesโ€“ These are amazing & can be sanitized in the dishwasher!
  • Cleaning Clothsย โ€“ Microfiber and antibacterial cleaning cloths are a great option for cleaning most surfaces in the home. They can be washed and reused.
  • Bucketsย โ€“ At least 2 large buckets are always useful to have on hand for soaking and washing.
  • Baking Sodaย โ€“ You may have some in your pantry already. If not, get yourself a large box because this ingredient is very useful!
  • Scrubbing Brushย โ€“ Sometimes you need to put in a little extra elbow grease and these scrubbing tools will help.
  • Paper Towels โ€“ For really grubby cleanups, using paper towel instead of your cleaning cloths may be a good option.

Top cleaning tips:

  • You should work from top to bottom. Floors should be done last.
  • Complete related tasks at the same time.
  • Declutter surfaces first before cleaning.
  • Get the family involved to lessen the workload!

Deep cleaning tasks for your whole house

These deep cleaning tasks can either be done room by room, or individually by the task.

I think itโ€™s quicker to do these tasks room by room since youโ€™re already equipped with the right tools. Whichever way you choose is fine!

Like I said before, I recommend starting with higher surfaces because they can cause extra dust to fall to surfaces below.

Leave floor cleaning for last once everything is already cleaned.

  • Ceiling fans & light fittingsย โ€“ Wipe down and dust light fixtures and ceiling fan blades. Remove dead bugs and dust from inside light covers.
  • Air conditionersย โ€“ Replace filters and wipe away any settled dust.
  • Windows & door tracksย โ€“ Clean out dirt and bugs from tracks.
  • Door handles & light switchesย โ€“ Wipe all door handles, cabinet handles and light switches with a disinfectant and a cloth.
  • Windows, screens & doorsย โ€“ Clean off doors, windows and screens. Remove screens and wash them outside with a scrubbing brush. If they canโ€™t be removed, spray with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe them off with a cloth.
  • Curtains & blindsย โ€“ Remove and wash curtains andย blinds if you can. If you canโ€™t remove them,ย spot clean any marks and wipe away dust. For horizontal blinds, use a damp cloth to wipe between each slat.
  • Trash cansย โ€“ Empty all trash cans and hose them off outside. Use a dishwashing liquid, like Dawn, and a scrubbing brush to clean trash cans inside and out. Allow them to fully dry in the sunlight.
  • Electronics & appliancesย โ€“ Wipe down with a dry cloth to remove dust build-up from behind electronics, like TVs and computers.
  • Dust surfacesย โ€“ Use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to dust all surfaces. Shelves, doors, cabinets, tables and any other surface where dust may settle.
  • Baseboards & wall trimย โ€“ Dust off baseboards and wall trim. Brush away cobwebs from corners and behind doors. Clean off any marks with your magic eraser.
